Our Flight Recorder is a stand alone device that can ride along in your vehicle and report parameters on it’s screen at any time. It has many uses and is a great diagnostic tool.
It’s a physically small device measuring 1.25″ (30mm) by 2.125″ (55mm) by 1/2″ (12.5mm) and is lightweight at 0.84 oz (23.7 gr).
The Flight Recorder records and displays multiple parameters of interest during the flight of a radio-controlled vehicle: No setup, external hardware, or telemetry are required, only an input DC voltage source such as the receiver voltage. Seven parameters are recorded and displayed: flight number, minimum input (i.e. receiver) voltage, maximum GPS speed, maximum GPS AGL, maximum 3-D distance from start, odometer, and current number of satellites received. All parameters, except for flight number, are reset to zero at power on.
It is not limited to radio controlled vehicles, for example you can use it to check the accuracy of the speedometer in your car.
The minimum receiver voltage is important to capture during a flight as an indication of the robustness of the power source, i.e., whether high servo loads are causing power spikes, whether a “brown-out” condition could be occurring, etc. The voltage is sampled at over 10,000 times per second to capture short dropouts in the receiver voltage. If a separate battery is used to power the Flight Recorder, of course only that battery voltage and not the receiver voltage is measured.
Note: this is not a GPS sensor for input to a flight controller, it is a stand alone device.
